This musical comedy brings an unconventional and hilarious rendering to the story of The Princess and the Pea. The princess of this lively spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance has been played by Carol Burnett, and the musical itself has had 3 television adaptations and was nominated for several Tony awards.
If you thought you knew the story of The Princess and The Pea, you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that Lady Larken’s love for Sir Harry provided a rather compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste? Or that, in fact, it wasn’t the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are you’ll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again.

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM
The United Way of Union County
The United Way of Union County thanks you for attending this performance of “Once Upon a Mattress.” We are very grateful to Silver Scene Players for partnering with us for this production and naming our organization as the beneficiary of the funds raised.
The funds raised from this weekend’s performances will support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and our Youth Education, Arts & Recreation Grant Fund.
The United Way of Union County brought the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to Union County in October 2008. This program provides one book per month to each enrolled child between birth and age 5. The program is designed to encourage early childhood literacy; school-readiness; increase vocabulary skills; and enhance child/parent or guardian bonding.
Since the program began, over 104,000 books has been mailed to preschoolers throughout Union County and Plain City. Over a 9-year period there have been an average of 1,000 children enrolled each year. In 2017 the United Way invested over $34,000 to provide 16,642 books to an average of 1,387 children.
The Youth Education, Arts and Recreation Grant fund was established by the United Way to provide financial assistance for participation in youth programs such as youth programs softball, baseball and art classes. This grant fund is also used to help educational activities such as Robotics Teams and Destination Imagination.
This fund has generated 112 approved grants with a total of $119,500, enabling numerous opportunities for youth throughout Union County.
